Minimalist Website with Timeline for Atelier Armonico

Atelier Armonico’s Minimalist Website: A Blend of Art & Function

Atelier Armonico is a production company that raises awareness of social issues through performances created in collaboration with community members and professional artists. They secured major funding from the Heritage Fund and the Arts Council for their latest project, Living Seams, and decided to invest part of these funds into a minimalist website to showcase their past and present work.

Davide Levi, whom I had previously worked with as a photographer, reached out to see if I’d be interested in taking on the project. The website would be a standard five-page site with a dedicated section for Living Seams, including subpages. They also requested a custom-made timeline to visually represent the various stages of the project’s development.

Design

Atelier Armonico had an existing logo from a previous collaboration, but the original files had been lost. I transferred the logo into Photoshop and gave it a subtle update to align with the fonts chosen for the website. The logo consists of geometric, angular lines forming a rough rectangle, a motif I carried throughout the website’s design. Nearly every Squarespace section was custom-built using CSS to maintain this aesthetic.

The colour scheme remains monochromatic to complement the logo and overall house style. This approach ensures that the text and images stand out, creating a digital exhibition-like experience where the colour comes from the artworks and photography.

Timeline & Exhibition Space

Beyond the custom CSS design, I integrated a Timeline page to visually represent the key stages of Living Seams. The project began with collecting oral histories from refugees who lived in Kent between 2000 and 2021, which later informed a dance performance choreographed to Kurt Weill’s Zaubernacht. The Timeline includes dates, event details, and corresponding Instagram Reels (which I created as part of my role as Digital Content Producer for the project). The videos are playable directly within the browser, and the Timeline design aligns seamlessly with the rest of the website.

Additionally, Living Seams generated a wealth of artwork from its participants. To showcase these, we designed an online Exhibition Space. This page features a masonry-style gallery, enhanced with custom CSS so that artwork details appear in an overlay when hovered over with the mouse.

Other Pages

The website's blog pages serve as an effective way to organise Atelier Armonico’s productions, offering the flexibility to add categories, tags, and various content blocks, including donation links and performance updates.

Other key pages include Home, About, and a dedicated Contact page.

Conclusion

Working with Atelier Armonico to design this website was a fantastic experience. The final site not only showcases their productions but also provides an engaging and interactive space for visitors to explore Living Seams and the company’s broader work.

Sarah Foubert

I’m a photographer and Squarespace web designer based in Altrincham, South Manchester. I specialise in portrait, landscape and opera photography and also offer a “complete website package” where I can offer headshots, photos of your business and design your new website so you can manage it yourself afterwards.

Over the years I’ve built a portfolio career as a professional photographer, opera singer, wardrobe assistant and singing teacher. I have a MMus from the RNCM, a Bachelor in Theatre Sciences and Musicology from Ghent University and I’m a qualified teacher. When my son was born in 2021 I quickly realised that an opera career wasn’t as compatible with being a mum as much as I would like, so I decided to change my focus completely to photography and web design.

I prefer working with daylight in casual surroundings while having a chat making sure you’re at ease and relaxed. It’s the little moments in between that make the best shots!

Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to work with me!
