Web Design for Photographers: Sara Epstein’s New Site

Web Design for photographers: A Unified Website for Sara Epstein

When London-based photographer Sara Epstein got in touch just before I went on maternity leave, she was looking for web design for photographers that could bring her full range of work—weddings, portraits, and charity projects—into one unified online presence. Previously, Sara had been operating two separate websites. The goal? Create one central brand that showcases the diversity of her portfolio and encourages cross-over from one niche to another.

From Multiple Sites to a Unified Brand

Right from the start, it was clear that storytelling was at the heart of Sara’s photography. This concept became the foundation of her new website, built on Squarespace. Together, we crafted a clean, engaging layout that allows visitors to explore her work through beautifully curated blog posts.

A Portfolio That Tells Stories

To make the most of her extensive image archive, we used the blog as a dynamic portfolio tool. The blog is divided into three story categories:

  • Wedding Stories

  • Sole Stories (portraits and headshots)

  • Social Stories (charity work and educational collaborations)

Each project has its own post, and we used summary blocks filtered by tags to create category-specific pages. This makes it easy for users to navigate through Sara’s portfolio while keeping the design clean and content-focused.

Branding Touches and Custom Fonts

Sara wanted to keep her existing logo, which had a lot of character. I gave it a refresh by converting it to a black-and-white version in Photoshop and introducing consistent fonts across the site. The script font was manually added using Squarespace’s custom code feature, ensuring visual consistency while maintaining her original branding.

Enhanced User Experience with Custom Code

This project involved a fair bit of custom Squarespace code.

Some highlights include:

  • Auto-rotating carousel summary blocks on key pages

  • Hover effects on blog images to display titles for better storytelling

  • Subtle code additions to the reviews and clients sections to enhance interactivity

These tweaks help keep users engaged and visually convey Sara’s identity as a photographer who sees each shoot as part of a larger narrative.

SEO Setup for Better Visibility

Sara’s site launch included a basic SEO setup, which ensures her work is now more visible and search-friendly on Google. From image alt text to meta descriptions and URL structure, we made sure the groundwork for long-term visibility was solid.

Working with Sara felt more like a collaboration than a commission. It’s always a joy to work with someone so passionate about their craft—and it was especially lovely to support another creative as she shapes her online presence.

Sarah Foubert

I’m a photographer and Squarespace web designer based in Altrincham, South Manchester. I specialise in portrait, landscape and opera photography and also offer a “complete website package” where I can offer headshots, photos of your business and design your new website so you can manage it yourself afterwards.

Over the years I’ve built a portfolio career as a professional photographer, opera singer, wardrobe assistant and singing teacher. I have a MMus from the RNCM, a Bachelor in Theatre Sciences and Musicology from Ghent University and I’m a qualified teacher. When my son was born in 2021 I quickly realised that an opera career wasn’t as compatible with being a mum as much as I would like, so I decided to change my focus completely to photography and web design.

I prefer working with daylight in casual surroundings while having a chat making sure you’re at ease and relaxed. It’s the little moments in between that make the best shots!

Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to work with me!
