Jenny Rust

Photographing Jenny Rust was such a joy. She’s a soprano and educator with a wonderfully vibrant personality, and she came to the session wanting headshots that truly reflected her positive and vibrant nature. Her previous portraits didn’t quite capture that side of her, so our focus was on creating images that felt warm, approachable, and full of life—just like Jenny.

Jenny is one of those people who seems to do everything! As well as being a talented soprano, she’s a passionate educator, working in vocal health, EYFS, dementia, and SEND. She’s also a community musician, wife, and mum, and somehow, she manages to bring her trademark energy and positivity to it all. That’s what I really wanted these photos to show: not just her professionalism, but also her warmth and enthusiasm.

We kept the setup simple, sticking to my usual approach. This time, we shot in my living room, where the natural daylight creates a soft, flattering atmosphere. With some gentle background music and a good cup of coffee, we chatted while I took photos. It’s always easier to capture the right shot when the person in front of the camera feels at ease, and with Jenny, that was exactly the case. The final portraits feel so true to her—confident, bright, and completely genuine.

It was such a privilege to work with Jenny. If you’d like to learn more about her work (and see where these portraits might pop up!), you can visit her website at jennyrust.com.

I’m a photographer and Squarespace web designer based in Altrincham, South Manchester. I specialise in portrait, landscape and opera photography and also offer a “complete website package” where I can offer headshots, photos of your business and design your new website so you can manage it yourself afterwards.

Over the years I’ve built a portfolio career as a professional photographer, opera singer, wardrobe assistant and singing teacher. I have a MMus from the RNCM, a Bachelor in Theatre Sciences and Musicology from Ghent University and I’m a qualified teacher. When my son was born in 2021 I quickly realised that an opera career wasn’t as compatible with being a mum as much as I would like, so I decided to change my focus completely to photography and web design.

I prefer working with daylight in casual surroundings while having a chat making sure you’re at ease and relaxed. It’s the little moments in between that make the best shots!

Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to work with me!
